Mason Bee Harvest 2018

On Nov 10, 2018 I harvested my Mason Bees, as stated previously, I had 18 of 20 purchased bees survive.

Bottom board removed
The Hive boards were home-made, which were not very accurate, but the Bees did not seem to mind.

First Layer of the Nest

I cleaned, washed, and counted this years results: we have about 250 new Cocoons to put into the fridge for next years release. There seems to be a good mix of Males to Females.

Wood shaving and a small damp fold of Paper Towel was placed inside with the Bees.  The damp Paper Towel was place away from the Bees.  They will be up-front on top-shelf in the fridge where I can watch them.

Jan, my daughter-in-law's mother, helped with the harvest.

In empty holes we found many Yellow Jackets, holding up for the winter - they did not survive the process.
